Is God Not Expected or Not Welcomed? – l

For most people, God is not expected to show up in their reality.

For most people, God is unexpected, not un-welcomed.

There isn’t a “Do Not Disturb” sign hanging on the doorknob of their mind or souls.

They just don’t expect God to show up.

And sometimes, He doesn’t.

On purpose.

No matter what.

Sometimes He doesn't show up.

But when He does show up, He changes everything.

Why doesn’t He show up?

Who knows?

I mean really, who knows why with any certainty an infinite being does anything?

Yes, I know there are people who, with absolute certainty declare why God does what he does.

These are arrogant words from unskilled theologians who insist they know “God's will.”

Yet Saint Paul, the man whose writings are the basis for Christian thought, wrote: “We see through a glass dimly.”

So I'll side with Paul and hold on loosely to most of what I believe concerning God and reality.

Yet, one thing I firmly hold: God is kind, and God is love.

IF [and i’ll concede there is a possible world where no god exists] the story found in the sacred writings of the Jews and Christians are true, then a normal response to God when he does show up is surprise.

Often when people encountered the Divine in their reality, it is more than surprise.

There’s nothing so affecting [and disturbing] as discovering we are not alone in the universe.

There’s nothing so affecting [and disturbing] as discovering a grand Personality in the universe.

There’s noting so transforming as discovering the grand Personality cares for you,

Is for you,

Loves you.

But let’s be honest, that’s unexpected.

And a surprise.

Until it’s true.
